While Volkswagen Philippines’s plans to bring in the 7-seater Teramont remain up in the air, its North American twin, the Atlas has just seen a refresh.
Riding on the very same platform as before, the 2021 Atlas is about 75 millimeters longer, but that’s due to new front and rear bumper designs. Upfront, the three-bar grille’s made to extend into the headlights which now have LED lighting as standard.
Inside, it gets a new steering wheel, available contrast stitching on the leather seats, and an 8-inch infotainment system. Other available features include a Fender audio system, ambient lighting, 3-zone climate control, wireless charging, and more.
Powering the Atlas are two powertrains: a 276-horsepower V6 and a 235-horsepower 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and are available with Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.
When pressed on the status of the Teramont, Volkswagen Philippines says they’re still keen on bringing in this 7-seater SUV into the country. However, because discussions are still on-going with their counterparts at SAIC-VW, the target launch date is still “very fluid.” Given that the Atlas has just seen a refresh, perhaps it would be more prudent for VW Philippines to simply wait for the refreshed model to be made available before bringing it in.
