After bringing in a more affordable version of its five-seater 3008 SUV, Peugeot Philippines is now doing the same for its 7-seater SUV, the 5008. Now sourced from a Peugeot joint-venture plant in Malaysia, the 2020 5008 SUV basically costs a million pesos less than before.
With prices that start at P 2.190 million, the new 5008 could potentially spoil the Mazda CX-8’s party which is slated to launch also by the end of the year. Like its 3008 counterpart, the Malaysian-sourced 5008 swaps its turbo diesel BlueHDi engine for a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. In this guise, it makes a healthy 165 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque. The transmission is a 6-speed automatic with cruise control driving the front wheels.
The EMP2 platform, which also underpins the 3008 explores Peugeot’s interior modularity concept and with that comes with enhanced interior space and interiors which are “at par with the best people carriers.” It’s also highly flexible with its individually flat-folding and adjustable seats. Oh, and despite the lack of all wheel drive, the platform comes with the Peugeot Advanced Grip Control that optimizes all available traction based on five preset modes: Normal, Snow, Mud, Sand, and ESP Off.
Front and center to its interior design is the Peugeot i-Cockpit with its 8-inch capacitive touchscreen, small diameter steering wheel, and a 12.3-inch instrument panel mounted on top. Standard features include leather seats, power adjustable front seats (8-way for the driver, 6-way for the passenger), dual zone climate control, sunroof, and an auto dimming rear view mirror. Meanwhile, outside, the 5008 gets full LED headlights (including front fogs) and rides on 225/55 R 18 wheels and tires.
In terms of safety, the 2020 Peugeot 5008 comes with 6 SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and blind spot indicators.
The 2020 Peugeot 5008 Allure is available in four colors: Emerald Crystal, Pearl White, Platinum Gray, and Pyrite.
