At 1.845M, the 2019 Isuzu mu-X Boondock is the Porma Deal of the Year (w/ Brochure)

Five years—that’s how long the Isuzu mu-X’s been on the Philippine market, and yet, Isuzu Philippines Corporation has managed to keep it fresh with a continuous slew of updates here and there. Their most special one to date though is the mu-X Boondock—a commemorative limited edition that will terrorize mall parking lots very soon.

As expected, the mu-X Boondock closely mirrors the upgrades found in the D-Max Boondock from the beefy Yokohama Geolander all-terrain 265/70 R 17 tires to the monotube nitrogen-filled “performance” shock absorbers, steel side step boards, and Boondock branding. Unlike the D-Max Boondock though, the mu-X Boondock gets cross rails for the roof, nicks its fender extensions from the mu-X Luxe Edition of all places, and gets a front chin spoiler to even out the design.

The larger tires and new shock absorbers raise the mu-X’s ground clearance, approximating the D-Max Boondock’s impressive 247-mm number. Water wading depth is also sure to cross the 800-mm mark as well.

Unfortunately for overlanders and trail-happy enthusiasts, the mu-X Boondock will only be adept at light off-roading due to its 4x2 layout. Still, it does share the 3.0 LS-A’s 3.0-liter 4JJ1-TCX engine making 177 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque, so that’s something. The sole transmission on offer is a 6-speed automatic.

Like the 3.0 LS-A on which the mu-X Boondock is based from, it gets the very same black leather seats, automatic climate control, flip-down entertainment system, and powered driver’s seat.

While opting for just a 4x2 drivetrain sounds like a bummer, the good news is that Boondock upgrade isn’t going to break the bank. It costs just P 1,845,000 or P 50,000 more than the standard 3.0 LS-A variant. This makes the mu-X Boondock sound like the family deal of the year, especially if you have a thing for limited edition models. You better hurry though because only 100 of these bad boys (the sole color option is Havana Brown) will be made and they’ll be available at all Isuzu dealerships by the end of October.
