Honda Cars Philippines is Launching the 2020 Accord in September

It has taken them a while, but Honda Cars Philippines is finally ready to unveil the all-new 10th generation Accord next month. The launch, which is slated for the fourth week of September sees a bolder, more luxurious executive sedan from Honda.

Already a multi-award winner, including the 2018 North American Car of the Year, the 2020 Accord is built off an all-new platform that’s lighter and more rigid than before. It’s the first Honda to adopt laser welding technology to join the roof and side panels creating a cleaner exterior look with no need for a garnish over the rain channels.

As Honda’s flagship sedan, the Accord is expected to carry technologies such as standard LED lighting (headlights, taillights, and even license plate lights and high-mount stoplight). The design itself emphasizes its lower and wider stance, and for that, it gets a chrome wing grille, streamlined headlights, and if the Philippines follows the other ASEAN countries’ playbook, 18-inch alloy wheels as well.

While Honda Cars Philippines is keeping the Accord’s drivetrain under wraps, the leading candidate (based again on what’s already launched in other ASEAN countries) is the same 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo engine found in the Civic RS. In the case of the Accord though, power has been uprated to 190 horsepower while torque is now up to 260 Nm of torque. Enthusiasts will no doubt hope that the 252 horsepower 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo engine, shared with the Civic Type R will make its way here. It’s possible, but highly unlikely that the Accord Hybrid may make its way here.

It’s a bummer that Honda Cars Philippines opted not to bring the Honda SENSING driver assistive tech in the refreshed Civic, so here’s hoping they’re not going to do the same mistake twice with the Accord. If the carmaker does decide to bring in the technology, it’ll bundle Collision Mitigation Brake System (CMBS) integrated with Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM) integrated with Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) integrated with Low Speed Follow (LSF), and Auto-High Beam.
